This is an environment inspired by cartoons. It reminds me of how in cartoons some characters would have dynamite and blow up and the only part of the ground that is left is the area where they stand.

A figure with personality

I really enjoyed painting this person in my figure class. I thought the costume gave the person a lot of personality and I immediately knew where I wanted to go with it.

I have really being enjoying creating landscape. Practice does make better artwork. So I hope to keep doing more and more and never stop. I love studying at Ringling, its filled with very supportive teachers and students, it is a community filled with infinite imagination.

Independent Studies, ENVIRONMENT #1

Its the second semester of my junior year and I have decided to work together with Prof. Octavio Perez with the purpose of creating environments. My idea behind this first environment was to basically focus on two towers that watch over a bay/port in the Caribbean . I wanted to make them look like they were pieced together with smaller houses/structures. The atmosphere I wanted to portray was more of a sunrise. Hope you enjoy and more coming soon!

First Illustration of Junior year

This is my first Illustration for my Junior Illustration class. I really enjoyed this project mostly because my teacher, Mike Hodges, is extremely conceptual and pushed my creativity. This is just the process.

It has been really interesting learning how to paint the figure. My new teacher Carl Johnson gives really good advice on how to make things better. We started drawing the figure in black and white, then monochromatic paintings and finally added some color. I found these steps really helpful, it was like learning to crawl and then to walk. I always try to bring something interesting to the piece. Hopefully I will get a better understanding of color and temperature as the year progresses. Enjoy!

Photoshop training piece

Im actually in an internship at an add agency. This piece was for me to get more comfortable with photoshop. I do not consider myself a Graphic Designer at all, but I do think that every Illustrator should have the basics knowledge of this software. The piece started off very randomly. I had been playing some first person shooters lately and I have a friend modeling a tank , so I believe that I subconsciously wanted to make something that looks somewhat like a video-game promo and something I would have fun creating.

Figure of Speech

This is the first time I have ever done a vignette illustration. I think the silhuoette created by the elements came out interesting. It was done with graphite and then scanned in the computer. After that i just messed with Photoshop. The figure of speech illustrated here is, "Falling asleep at the wheel". The concept behind the idea was basically to make it look like the man was working, but was too sleepy and out of focus. The desk was also given car elements. I tried not being to literal with it.

Intro to Illustration

This piece was made for an assignment for Intro to Illustration. The assignment was to take a phrase that contains an animal in it and illustrate it. I chose "sick as a dog" after experimenting with different ideas. After all the process done for it, my instructor, Joseph Thiel decided that the use of color pencils would be my best choice. This was decided after the results obtained in the color studies. The result was really successful and was one of the first pieces that I really felt that captured my idea.

Figure- Start of spring semester of Sophomore year

These are some drawings made during the start of my spring semester in Figure class. I really do not know what to say besides that "practice makes perfection." I really enjoy my class and there are a lot of talented people in Ringling, which is a very important factor in my education. It is what motivates us and drives us to become artists. It is extremely enjoyable to get ideas and then being able to transfer what is on my mind into the paper.

This semester I am following my minor. I am taking the second class on Visual Development and our first assignment consisted on creating 100 silhouettes and 50 doodles. I think the silhouettes are really fun to look at, so I decided to post it into the blog.

Last semester I had the opportunity to work with Prof. Custode Fiore. The following artwork was made during my fall semester of sophmore year. Some of the work was made for a journal we would turn in every week. This journal really helped us study the anatomy of the human body, improving the figure drawing as an effect. I will be posting work from this semester really soon!

Media Projects and the beginning of a blog

I decided to start my website by posting the work i am proudest of. Last semester during Media class I experimented with different media and enjoyed it very much. Scratchboard was extremely addicting and I found acrylic to be one of my strongest skills. Feel free to critique any of my work, the more I get critiqued the more i learn from my mistakes. I decided to create a blog because updating my website became difficult and time consuming. the link is in the blog. The last piece got into the 2009 Society of Illustrators student scholarship contest.
